The L.A. Times story three days ago birthed multitudes of reports such as this one. I ran across several of them today about President Obama’s half brother, Mark Okoth Obama Ndesandjo breaking his media silence to  publish with Aventine Press in San Diego. This is worldwide news, as evidenced by the BBC report, the Washington Post, and the buzz across the internet.

Of course for self publishing authors this is huge news. Any publishing house would have snapped up this book, but Ndesandjo chose to self-publish. I especially like what Carolyn Howard-Johnson had to say, and her speculations about his reasons. Would that we could ask Ndesandjo the reasons behind his choice. For now we can only assume they are, in part, the same reasons we chose it.
